Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Everywhere I go I see the traditonal signs of Valentine’s Day. RED…PINK…WHITE!
This year I decided I wanted something a little different.
I found some inspiration when I visited the dollar store one day.
I was on the toy aisle and I saw a “NINJA” bow and arrow set.
I saw CUPID’s ARROW!
I knew I did NOT want RED. Nothing against RED but I just wasn’t feeling it this year.
I was feeling GOLD…and of course GLITTER!
I took my little arrow home and hit it with a few coats of gold spray paint. I added glitter on the handle and I think she was looking kinda cute.
As I was waiting for the glitter to dry I was thinking about what else does cupid need….WINGS!
WINGS…..I have those! I made a few sets of coffee filter wings at Christmas time. I went to my stash of supplies and found 2 sets of wings that I knew I could use for Valentine’s Day!
I used the large wings to hang cupids arrow on and the smaller wings enjoy some affection from these gold love hearts!
The area just needed a little light. I feel like this time of year is just so dark. I can’t stand it!
These lights were a steal at Hobby Lobby. After Halloween everything was 80% off and on an off chance I found this set of lights for almost nothing. I think they were returned and 2 of the bulbs were broken. I got even a better bargain.
I took the orange and black blubs out and hit the cord with gold spray paint.
I am really enjoying this little display.
What have you done to decorate for Valenine’s Day?
This summer I stumbled upon these old wagon “walls”. I guess that is what you would call them. They are wood and had just the right patina on them. I practically jumped into the bin when I found them at … Continue reading
Okay so it is December 1st. We had a wonderful and crazy Thanksgiving. We were all so thankful that Stuart’s family and my family could ALL be together for the holiday. My thankfulness comes in the form of food….I am so thankful they … Continue reading
I pick up these little silver sugar bowls anywhere I can find them. I don’t really care if it is a sugar bowl or a silver creamer. I LOVE them! There is good and bad news to this….. BAD: Other … Continue reading
Merry Junkin’ Christmas!
Every junker needs a beat up pick up truck. Unfortunatly mine comes in this toy size. One day I will own an old beat up truck, but for now I will have to just enjoy this one.
I really wanted a vintage toy truck, but they are not easy to find and when you do they are VERY expensive.
I looked and looked for a cheap one to junk up.
Success…. I found this toy truck at my local thrift store.
I am not a fan of the colors it came with. I wanted it white “ish”. I covered the wheels and started off to paint it.
The dark colors that were on the truck did NOT want to be covered. It took a LOT of paint to cover.
Finally I was somewhat happy with the color.
I gave it a nice decorative sanding and then began to bling it up!
Just toss a tree in the back and a wreath on the front and you are ready for the holidays.
This little truck will find a place of honor in my home this year.
I am sure it will travel to some shows also 🙂
Merry Junkin’ Christmas
Wings to Wander…. I have found that I really enjoy creating wings. I don’t know why, but one day I sat down and just started to create wings. These cuties are made from cardboard and coffee filters. That’s it…okay and … Continue reading
Over the past year, I have been updating and personalizing our new home while neglecting my blogging duties (sorry Pam!). The previous owners left us with a horribly tacky brass chandelier with swans on it. I apologize for not including a picture of it, but really just imagine the worst! My decorating style has evolved to what I like to call rustic farmhouse. Oh, and did I forget to say I’m cheap too? I found this red barn pulley at a flea market for $5.00. It was definitely a steal as I had been searching for several months for something in my budget.
I’ve got to admit I was completely unsure how to proceed once I found the pulley. Luckily my husband was willing to help. We took a trip to Lowe’s and found 2 basic pendant light kits as well as some heavy duty chain and hooks. From there, it’s just a matter of following the directions on the light kit. Much, much easier than I expected.
This is one of my very favorite projects. I love this pulley, but really you could use anything to create a personalized chandelier. The sky’s the limit!
